MIMIT Deputy Minister Visits Federician Quantum Computing Laboratories

During his visit to Naples on the occasion of the Innovation Roadshow organized at the House of Emerging Technologies “Infiniti Mondi” in Naples, the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy Valentino Valentini visited the Superconducting Quantum Computing Laboratories of the Federico II University, built at the laboratories of the Department of Physics ‘E. Pancini”. Professors Francesco Tafuri and Giovanni Piero Pepe illustrated the current 24-qubit architecture of the quantum computer currently being measured, its design expansions that should bring it to 40 qubits by the end of the year, underlining the public nature of the computing infrastructure currently being built and its complete availability towards the construction of an eco-system in which the contribution of companies will certainly be fundamental. The Deputy Minister said he was very satisfied with the visit and the excellent level achieved, adding: “Quantum computing is now a reality of crucial importance in order not to be left behind as a country in the world panorama. The “open” characteristic of this computer is fundamental in order to be modular and to start phases of research and commercial development in an ecosystem in which national and local administrations, universities and research institutions and the business world collaborate and contaminate each other to develop quantum processors also in Italy”.
